Remember how drafty your home was on cold and windy days last winter? Do you fret over high heating bills every cold winter month and promise to do something different before next winter? Are you worried about the rising price of heating oil? Is your house hot and stuffy when warm summer days (finally) arrive?
Now is the time to sign up through Weatherize Rockland for free a home energy consult and get estimates for air sealing, insulation, and heat pumps that can dramatically lower home energy bills and make a home much more comfortable year round.
What is Weatherize Rockland? Weatherize Rockland is an initiative of the City of Rockland, through the City’s Energy Committee, to make information on options to lower home energy use and to improve comfort in houses readily available to residents.
70% or more of Rockland’s housing stock appears to have been built before effective insulation and air sealing was common which means many homes likely are drafty and present a significant heating cost burden to residents.
The Weatherize Rockland initiative is also designed to simplify the process for homeowners to decide if an air sealing or insulation project or a split system heat pump makes sense for them. Residents also receive discounted pricing on many home energy saving services.
In the first round of signups for the Weatherize Rockland back in December, more than 60 Rockland homeowners signed up to access discounted energy efficiency services from Penobscot Home Performance and rebates from Efficiency Maine for energy assessments, air sealing, insulation, heating systems and hot water heaters.
As of June 26th, over $113,000 of weatherization work had been completed or was under contract from the first Weatherize Rockland signups. $40,820 of that work had been paid for through Weatherize Rockland discounts or through Efficiency Maine rebates.
From now until the end of July, residents can sign up in the second round for Weatherize Rockland. If a resident has been thinking about making home energy improvements, now is the time to sign up so the work can be completed before the heating season starts in the fall.
